Anterior inferior endoscopic view of vascular anatomy of the pituitary gland and stalk. The pituitary gland is in view in the lower center of the image. Its stalk extends superiorly to the hypothalamus and is bordered anteriorly by the optic chiasm and laterally by the optic tracts. The gland is bounded laterally by the internal carotid arteries. The superior hypophyseal arteries are branches of the ophthalmic or C6 segment of the ICA and supply the hypothalamus, pituitary stalk, and anterior pituitary. Superiorly, the anterior cerebral arteries course on the undersurface of the frontal lobes to the interhemispheric fissure. (Image courtesy of PA Rubino)
