White Matter Dissection of the Insula. The inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus connects the frontal lobe to the occipital lobe. The uncinate fasciculus passes laterally to the inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus and connects the anterior temporal lobe to the inferior frontal gyrus. The external and internal capsules have been dissected to expose the putamen and globus pallidus of the lenticular nucleus. The anterior commissure decussates at midline to reciprocally interconnect the middle and inferior temporal gyri. (Image courtesy of M Nunez)
