The sphenoid bone, ventral view. The rostrum of the sphenoid is a triangular spine located in the inferior aspect of the sphenoid body. It continues with the sphenoid concha and crest at the anterior aspect of the sphenoid, which form the anterior wall of the sphenoid sinus. The sphenoid ostium is located in the superolateral aspect of the sphenoid concha. The superior orbital fissure is between the greater and lesser wings, and the maxillary strut is between the superior fronto-occipital fasciculus and foramen rotundum. The pterygoid body contains two foramina, the vidian canal and foramen rotundum, and two plates, medial and lateral. (Image courtesy of JC Fernandez-Miranda)
