Ventral Perspective of the Brainstem and Cerebellum. The lobes of the cerebellum (anterior, posterior, and flocculonodular) are highlighted. The pyramids and olives are visible along the ventral surface of the medulla. The corticospinal tract has been dissected on the right side of the midbrain and pons and continues into the medullary pyramid. The optic tract sweeps along the lateral edge of the hypothalamus and crus cerebri to terminate in the lateral geniculate nucleus. The mammillary bodies are visible on the ventral surface of the posterior hypothalamus immediately anterior to the midbrain interpeduncular fossa (Image courtesy of M Nunez)
