The transpterygoid approach to the Meckel’s cave. Opening the dura lateral to the petrolingual ligament will go into Meckel’s cave. The ophthalmic nerve runs into the superior orbital fissure along the lateral wall of the cavernous sinus lateral to the abducens nerve.
