Anterior frontal view through the central part of the head with exposure of the nasopharynx. The right pharyngotympanic tube and internal carotid artery are reflected to reveal the petrous portion of the temporal bone. The glossopharyngeal and vagus nerves are shown emerging from the jugular foramen. Along the lower lateral clivus is the hypoglossal canal transmitting the hypoglossal nerve. The pterygoid canal and its nerve can be seen coursing toward the posterior wall of the pterygopalatine fossa. (Image courtesy of AL Rhoton, Jr.)
