Third Ventricular Floor Viewed from Right Foramen of Monro. This view is permitted by opening the foramen of Monro with a retractor. The interventricular septum is observed, out of focus, at image left. The tuber cinereum is an important landmark because it is the target for completion of an endoscopic third ventriculostomy. During the latter procedure, the operative view would be very similar to the one in the image above. The important landmarks would be the mammillary bodies below and infundibular recess above. The column of the fornix is observed anterior to the retractor, arching inferiorly towards the mammillary bodies. (Image courtesy of AL Rhoton, Jr.)
