Supracerebellar Perspective of the Pineal Region. The occipital lobes have been retracted laterally to expose the splenium of the corpus callosum and the internal cerebral veins within the dissection cavity superior to the pineal gland. The veins drain posteriorly to the vein of Galen, then into the straight sinus. The basal veins of Rosenthal are obscured by the internal cerebral veins. The internal occipital veins can be seen draining to the vein of Galen as well. (Image courtesy of AL Rhoton, Jr.)
