Superior Perspective of the Temporal Lobe and Lateral Ventricle. The transverse temporal gyri (primary auditory cortex) are prominently displayed along the superior aspect of the temporal lobe. The ventromedial wall of the temporal (inferior) horn of the lateral ventricle is formed by the hippocampus. Attached to the dorsomedial edge of the hippocampus is the fimbria of the fornix. The fornix constitutes the major efferent projection system of the hippocampus and terminates mainly to the mammillary body. (Image courtesy of AL Rhoton, Jr.)
