C, Lateral view. The anterior medullary segment passes rostral to the hypoglossal nerve. The lateral medullary segment passes between the accessory rootlets. The tonsillomedullary segment forms a cranially convex loop near the inferior pole of the tonsil. The telovelotonsillar segment forms a cranially convex loop and bifurcates into medial and lateral trunks near its termination. The cortical segment spreads across the suboccipital surface. D, Midsagittal section. The tonsillomedullary and telovelotonsillar segments send choroidal branches into the choroid plexus. The telovelotonsillar segment ascends between the nodule and uvula medially and the tonsil laterally. (Images courtesy of AL Rhoton, Jr.)
