Posteroinferior View of the Quadrigeminal Plate

Surgical Correlation

Posteroinferior view of the quadrigeminal plate. The tentorium has been reflected laterally to reveal the superior and inferior colliculi of the quadrigeminal plate. The left internal cerebral vein, the left basal vein of Rosenthal, and the occipital vein have been retracted superiorly to expose the pineal gland superior to the quadrigeminal plate. The cerebellar vermis is visible inferior to the quadrigeminal plate.  The superior vermian vein typically crosses the quadrigeminal cistern to reach the vein of Galen but has been retracted to the right in this view. The vein of the cerebellomesencephalic fissure also crosses the quadrigeminal cistern and drains into the vein of Galen either directly or via the superior vermian vein. (Image courtesy of AL Rhoton, Jr.)
