On the medial surface of the cerebral hemisphere can be seen the corpus callosum, fornix, cingulate gyrus, lateral ventricle and caudate nucleus. The projections within the thalamus and epithalamus that have been dissected include the mammilothalamic tract, stria medullaris thalami, and fasciculus retroflexus. The midsagittal surface of the brainstem has been dissected to demonstrate within the pons the corticospinal tract and medial lemniscus. Superior to the fourth ventricle, the superior, middle (not visible), and inferior cerebellar peduncles enter the cerebellar white matter. (Image courtesy of AL Rhoton, Jr.)
