The lesser wing of the sphenoid continues medially with the anterior clinoid process, which has a superior attachment forming the roof of the optic canal and an inferior attachment or optic strut. The superior orbital fissure (SOF) is located anterior to the optic strut. The posterior clinoid is located in the superolateral aspect of the dorsum sella. The carotid sulcus is limited inferolaterally by the lingual process. (Image courtesy of JC Fernandez-Miranda)
