Surgical Correlation

The outer dural layer has been completely removed to show the different subsegments of the cavernous ICA: short ascending, horizontal, and anterior genu, which continues with the paraclinoidal ICA. The morphology of the horizontal cavernous ICA is highly variable. Note the continuity of the inner dural layer, roof of the cavernous sinus, and proximal dural ring. (Image courtesy of JC Fernandez-Miranda)
