The ethmoidal cells have all been removed to expose the roof of the ethmoids or fovea ethmoidalis, which is part of the frontal bone. Removal of this thin layer of bone exposes the dura of the anterior skull base. The lamina papyracea is located laterally. (Image courtesy of JC Fernandez-Miranda)
