Anterior Perspective of Dissected Cerebrum and Brainstem. The deep brain nuclei have been removed from this image to permit visualization of the hippocampus and brainstem. The posterior limb of the internal capsule is preserved on the left side of the brain to demonstrate the continuation of descending motor fibers (corticospinal, corticobulbar and corticopontine) from the internal capsule into the cerebral peduncle. On the right side of the brain are seen the body, atrium and temporal horn of the lateral ventricle. (Image courtesy of M Nunez)
